Why are you failing in PTE?

blog

Failing PTE can be frustrating, but understanding the common pitfalls and working on them can lead to success.  In this blog, we will explore the most common reasons for failing in PTE and provide actionable tips to help you succeed.

1. Outdated Templates

There are a couple of reasons for failing in PTE exam, mainly, but the most important reason is relying on outdated templates. PTE frequently updates its exam format and scoring criteria. They always bring up new changes to make it a little bit harder for the students. And it is really important that you understand those changes.

There is a common phrase that is always heard from students- “My friend used this template a year ago, six months ago. Can I also use it?”  We have seen students using old templates and they are not getting the scores. Pearson has made recent changes in April 2024. We have seen some changes for writing module as well in July 2024.

This is going to help you to make sure that you are not making any silly mistakes in the exam. So if you don't have the updated template, make sure that you go to Vision Language Experts. And over there, you can get the most updated template for all the modules. And you can use it, practice it, and you will be able to get your desired bands.

2. Lack of Awareness of Updated Exam Criteria

Another major reason for failing the PTE is a lack of understanding of the updated exam criteria and scoring. There are students who are not very sure of the things like the questions which are coming, and updated marking criteria. PTE launches their score guide every year. So you have to make sure that you are used to and aware of that score guide. And we always update our portal as per the new scoring whenever it comes up.

Recently, what they have done is they have also launched new trial questions. And a lot of students got panicked, a lot of students hesitated while performing those
tasks because they were not sure whether these tasks are scoring or not.

In fact, these tasks are not scoring. These trial questions are included for research purposes. So you have to make sure that you are always updated with these changes. These changes you always need to keep in your mind so that when you sit for the exam, you don't panic, you don't hesitate, and you can give your best performance.

3. Inadequate Feedback and Guidance

When students are practicing at home, they do not usually get feedback. And they keep on making those mistakes. They are not even sure if they are making those mistakes, because there is no one to guide them, no one to correct them. This is something really important, because if you are making mistakes, you need someone to give you feedback. It can be online tutor, face-to-face tutor, but you need to get guidance. You need to get guidance from someone who is an expert, who knows how PTA scores you, who knows about the updated changes.

4. Random Mock Tests

Taking random mock tests from unreliable platforms is another common issue. Not all mock tests adhere to the updated PTE scoring criteria, leading to misleading results. As an official Pearson partner, Vision Language Experts provides mock tests that accurately reflect the real exam's scoring system. This AI portal also keeps getting updated.

5. Repetitive Mistakes

Many students fail to identify and work on their weaknesses, leading to repetitive mistakes in subsequent attempts. Before booking another exam, take time to pinpoint your weak areas and focus on improving them. Make a list of the areas where you lost marks and work on them diligently. This practice helps in avoiding the same mistakes and increases the likelihood of achieving your desired score.

Failing in PTE is often due to outdated templates, lack of awareness about exam updates, inadequate feedback, unreliable mock tests and repeated mistakes.
